Web Developer, Senior

Key Role:

Provide Web site development and maintenance activities, including design, development, troubleshooting, debugging, and implementation software code for the components of the Web site. Work with graphics designers and other members of the project team to lead development of the site concept, interface design, and architecture of the Web site, conduct expert work within an online environment of scholarly literature, Web and print publishing, and review, streamline, and update journal electronic publishing systems. Provide XML activities, including converting full journal text, such as abstracts, manuscripts, and tables to XML for submission to PubMed Central and content management system, as needed. Coordinate the development of the monthly XML upload to PubMed and LinkOut. Work with other editors towards a unified style for journal editing, including downloading manuscript files from ScholarOne as they are added to the TOC and pre-processing and naming the Doc files in eXtyles. Build proof-of-concept prototypes for new projects. Collaborate with developers, product managers, designers, Web publishers, producers, and back-end engineers to support revenue operations and meet project deadlines.

Basic Qualifications:

-8+ years of experience in computer science or IT

-Experience with XML, HTML, JavaScript, Flash, and CSS development and version control systems and best practices

-Experience with hand-coding in HTML5 using semantic markup, the latest W3C Web standards, and CSS3 layout and positioning

-Experience with Mobile Applications development using objective C and Cocoa for iPad, Java Android, and .Net Windows apps

-Experience with maintaining Web and mobile content syndication and RSS feeds

-Experience with enhancing and troubleshooting existing Web content management systems (WCMS, including .Net, MVC3, or C#

-Ability to obtain a security clearance
-BA or BS degree

Additional Qualifications:

-Knowledge of JavaScript and object-oriented programming

-Knowledge of Node.js and build systems, including Grunt or Gul

-Knowledge of WCAG and 508 compliance and accessibility

-Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite 

-Knowledge of CrossRef, MedLine, PubMedCentral, and Inera’s eXtyles Microsoft Word tool

-Ability to work in a fast-paced team production environment and adapt quickly to shifting priorities

-BS or MS degree in CS or related fields preferred
