Strategic Planner

Key Role:

Apply expertise in qualitative and quantitative analysis. Provide recommendations regarding an organization’s capabilities with the demands of theater and global campaign plans, as published by Marine Components and current National Military Strategic guidance. Conduct vulnerability analysis with aligned areas of operations and develop reports, recommended actions, and input to Operational Plans (OPLANs). Analyze strategic and long-range plans and operational concepts regarding an organization’s employment and develop analysis and reports to improve plans, concepts, and fiscal assessment for an overall organizational development program. Conduct analysis and develop recommendations regarding organizations aligning its efforts to man, train, and equip its forces according to Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC) and Higher Headquarters (HHQ) requirements balanced against current capabilities and readiness of the units sourced against these requirements.


Basic Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience working with Joint, coalition, and multi-national military
  • Experience with strategic planning at the senior staff-level
  • Knowledge of the Marine Corps and Joint Planning Process, policy development, exercise development,
  • and critical thinking
  • Knowledge of MAGTF, Joint, coalition, multi-national, inter-agency operations, and naval integration
  • Ability to conduct strategic planning and provide assessments and briefing products to General Officer staff
  • Top Secret clearance
  • BA or BS degree
  • Completion of Joint Professional Military Education 1 Certification

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with training and employment plan development and execution, exercise development, and conducting operational assessment and gap analysis
  • Knowledge of National Strategic Strategy, National Military Defense Strategy, Global Employment of the Force, Global Force Management, and Training and Exercise Employment Plan (TEEP)
  • Ability to articulate critical thought in written and spoken forms
  • MA or MS degree
