Astronaut Rescue and Emergency Medical Care Support Specialist

Key Role:

Facilitate training by providing planning assistance for short- and long-term astronaut medical care. Advise on utilization and deployment of rescue forces, reception and bed-down, prior to and during unit-led training activities. Help identify asset and personnel training shortfalls and develop mitigation strategies. Provide medical response planning capability for external rescue agencies during any crewed contingency operation. Document and facilitate mission, theater, and environmentally-specific briefings for specific operations. This position requires travel up to 25% of the time.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience as a Para-rescue Specialist
  • Knowledge of rescue tactics, techniques, and procedures
  • Ability to use a computer, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • HS diploma or GED

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Combat Rescue Officer
  • Experience with coordinating personnel recovery or rescue planning with Personnel Recovery Coordination Cell, the Joint Personnel Recovery Center or Rescue Coordination Center
  • Ability to leverage leadership and facilitator skills to collaborate with mission partners to develop schedules, goals, objectives, and measures of performance for development tests
