Systems Engineer

The Charleston Digital Hub of Booz Allen Hamilton is seeking qualified candidates for a Systems Engineer in the Charleston, SC area.

The Charleston Digital Hub is a software development hub of Booz Allen that operates and executes much like a fast-paced startup within the larger organization. The Systems Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and customer delivery expectations. Must live in Charleston, SC or be willing to relocate


Manage day to day operations of virtualized development and production infrastructure 

Monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair 

Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability 

Performs troubleshooting as required. As such, leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and organizations. 

Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources. 

Develop procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse. 

Develop procedures, programs and documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications. 


-7 years of experience with system administration in a data center environment or public cloud , including comprehend relationship between applications, operating system, software and cloud resources

-Experience with common computing platform configuration processes , including ITIL, Agile and DevOps

-knowledge of virtualization and Cloud computing architectures and concepts

-Experience with scripting skills, including shell scripts, Perl, Ruby and Python

-Experience with build automation, configuration management and continuous integration tools , including Chef and Jenkins

-Experience with monitoring tools , including Foglight, Splunk, and New Relic.

-Ability to obtain a security clearance
-HS diploma or GED


-Experience with VMware, Linux OS

-Experience with primarily Windows server administration (2003, 2008)

-Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, CloudFoundry

-Experience with application server and web servers like IIS, Apache, Oracle WebLogic, NginX, and Node.js.  

-Experience with implementing automated processes to PaaS/IaaS environments

-Experience with databases and Oracle SQL

-BA or BS degree in CS or MIS, or a related field.
