Biosurveillance Scientist, Senior

Key Role:

Conduct operational scientific and technical analysis to support international biosurveillance. Analyze international biosurveillance capabilities to meet national decision makers’ and stakeholders’ requirements. Perform the functions of a technical expert in a relevant scientific field to support major biosurveillance programs or system development activities. Apply scientific expertise in defining and resolving system issues, including performing analysis of plans and requirements for further analysis. Research, analyze, and compute mathematical, physical, and scientific data for integration and prepare analysis, evaluations, and recommendations for inclusion within counter-WMD (CWMD) biosurveillance products to support federal personnel. Interface with client science and program management personnel and work collaboratively with a team of technical subject matters experts in science, disease surveillance, biosafety, and biosecurity and project management specialists. This position requires international travel up to 30% of the time.

Basic Qualifications:

-5+ years of experience with providing scientific or technical support to major programs or system development efforts for biosurveillance

-Experience in a scientific, engineering, medical, veterinary, or public health field, including biology, chemistry, biochemistry, bacteriology, virology, epidemiology, toxicology, immunology, environmental science or engineering, physics, mathematics, or geology

-Ability to travel overseas up to 30% of the time

-Ability to lead a team

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-BA or BS degree

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with infectious diseases in a public health environment

-Experience with various veterinary or public health biosurveillance missions of the USG

-Experience with US Cooperative Threat Reduction

-Experience with international work

-Knowledge of the Federal Select Agent Program preferred

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills

-Active Secret clearance preferred

-MA or MS degree in scientific, medical, veterinary, or health field preferred; PhD degree in a biological science field a plus
