Science Mission Operations Lead

Key Role:

Work with a team of science, biosafety and biosecurity, bio-surveillance, engineering, and program management professionals supporting a defense client program as a biological scientist. Provide leadership in scientific and technical areas of expertise to support the full range of the program’s missions and activities in a designated country or set of countries and assess clinical and veterinary diagnostic or biomedical research, infrastructure, technology, and activities. Support the development of new laboratory research or field epidemiology programs, the implementation of laboratory diagnostic programs, and the full range of programmatic science activities, including scientific or technical conferences and workshops and functional and research meetings. Operate standard office computer systems. Apply experience with North American biological safety or biological security standards. This position requires overseas travel of over 25% of the time and is located in the Washington, DC National Capital Region.

Basic Qualifications:
-7+ years of experience with conducting research in a biological laboratory
-Experience with Microsoft Office
-Ability to work on a team
-Ability to obtain a security clearance
-MS degree

Additional Qualifications:
-Experience with US biodefense research or policy
-Experience with the DoD acquisition framework
-Experience with US cooperative threat reduction programs
-Experience with high containment laboratory design and operation, including BSL-3/4
-Experience with consulting
-Experience with international work
-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills
-PhD degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field
