Biometrics and Forensics Research Scientist

Key Role:

Use knowledge and research skills to improve national security by working as a research scientist who investigates and solves challenging biometric recognition, remote human identification, and multimedia forensic problems. Apply advanced consulting skills combined with your technical prowess to meet with clients and develop cutting-edge technology that can withstand rigorous scientific validation to fill their mission-specific capability gaps. Research and develop novel and innovative techniques, algorithms, and prototypes to address complex client challenges in topic areas, including biometric identification, media authenticity, geospatial analysis, and environmental analysis. Analyze scientific publications with a high degree of comprehension, implement concepts from academia into real-world use, evaluate and analyze technology, and offer or defend scientific recommendations to address specific client missions. Produce high-quality technical solutions, recommendations, and papers for senior technical personnel with the potential to publish. This position is a hybrid role with a combination of working at a Booz Allen office or client site and working remotely.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with R&D of signal processing, imaging processing, algorithm development, video analytics, machine learning, computer vision, or biometric recognition
  • Experience with implementing technical prototypes
  • Experience with presenting scientific findings to clients and leadership or publishing scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, performance evaluations, and technical assessment techniques
  • Ability to conduct research, including developing, designing, and executing research plans
  • Secret clearance
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with implementing technical prototypes in Python or MATLAB
  • Experience with leading R&D initiatives, including developing, designing, and executing research plans
  • Experience with R&D of biometric recognition algorithms or systems, including facial recognition, gait recognition, or speaker recognition
  • Experience in the identity intelligence or biometrics domains
  • Experience with optical sensor hardware or electronics
  • Experience with enhancement of noisy, degraded, or turbulent imagery
  • Experience with integrating commercial or open-source software tools for custom application development
  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Possession of excellent entrepreneurial thinking, innovation, and real-world problem-solving skills
  • Doctorate degree

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $81,800.00 to $186,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
