Fire Protection Engineer

Key Role:

Lead the development of fire protection system requirements. Develop innovative solutions based on advanced principles within the facilities industry. Apply advanced consulting and extensive technical expertise. Develop innovative solutions to complex problems. Work without considerable direction. This position will require travel outside of the US, when necessary to accommodate client needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with fire protection engineering

  • Experience with preparing and writing reports detailing specific fire prevention and protection issues, including work performed and proposed review schedules

  • Experience with designing fire detection equipment, alarm systems, and fire extinguishing devices and systems

  • Knowledge of advising facilities personnel on fire prevention equipment and techniques as well as fire code and standard interpretation and compliance

  • Ability to conduct research on fire retardants and the fire safety regulations and recommend changes as necessary

  • Ability to consult with authorities to discuss safety regulations and recommend changes as necessary

  • Ability to investigate causes of fire incidents and put together detailed summaries for leadership review

  • Ability to inspect buildings or building designs to determine fire protection system requirements and potential problems in areas that include water supplies, exit locations, and construction materials

  • TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph

  • Bachelor's degree

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in overseeing and coordinating activities with trade shops, including the prioritization of work, review of ongoing projects, and inspection of installed equipment

  • Ability to provide engineering review, coordination, and oversight of operations and maintenance, repair, and construction work

  • Ability to assist with the development of cost estimates, documents, and reports

  • Ability to assist the client's Contracting Officer (CO) and Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR) with acquisition planning, execution, and administration

  • Ability to assist the CO and COTR with conducting pre-bid and pre-construction site visits with the COTR

  • Ability to prepare and monitor project schedules and analyze budgets

  • Ability to provide technical guidance and assistance on contracting and construction-related issues, direct design efforts, recommend construction documents for approval, and provide oversight of any follow-on maintenance programs

  • Ability to conduct design reviews with the customer

  • Professional Engineering (PE) License a plus
