Fire Protection Engineer

Key Role:

Provide technical and programmatic fire protection and life safety support to Federal clients, including providing fire protection engineering, life safety, building, and fire code compliance consulting services to a variety of potential clients, including architects, developers, owners, and government clients. Review and analyze proposed fire protection and life safety (FP/LS) equipment and design changes to determine whether systems and equipment meet fire and life safety codes and criteria. Contribute as the subject matter expert (SME) and representative of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in development of Statements of Work and design and construction proposals, ensuring contract requirements are met. Develop performance-based design analyses utilizing fire protection engineering principles, code analyses, and consultation with AHJ and other available resources as necessary to suit the specifics of each application. Provide engineering reviews of shop drawings, construction oversight and inspection, and field surveys and systems acceptance testing for life safety systems, including fire suppression, fire detection, and emergency signaling systems. Participate in project meetings to provide progress oversight, coordinate prioritization of work as it relates to other areas of construction, and provide recommendations for resolution of issues encountered by construction trades during implementation of life safety system designs. Evaluate existing building and life safety system conditions through code compliance, life safety, and fire hazards analysis surveys. Develop technical reports detailing specific fire prevention and protection issues, including identified compliance issues, revisions to governing Codes or Standards, remedial work required to address deficiencies, and identified gaps in facility procedures and practices. Support the implementation of an organization's health and safety policies and procedures to meet organizational objectives and governmental regulations, apply specific functional knowledge, including working and general industry knowledge, and develop or contribute to solutions for a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience applying FP/LS requirements to design reviews of new and updated facilities, systems, and equipment
  • Experience with Federal government agencies such as EPA, VHA, DoD, and FAA
  • Experience in healthcare settings
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with on-site audits and assessments for compliance and generation of associated reports
  • Experience designing fire suppression and detection systems
  • Knowledge and formal training in fire protection codes and standards, including the latest edition of NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, and NFPA 99 Health Care Facilities Code, UFC 3-600-01
  • Knowledge of all the major areas of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), The Joint Commission (TJC), and FP/LS-related building codes and regulations
  • Professional Engineer Certification
  • Engineer in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering (EIT/FE) Certification
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist Certification

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $52,100.00 to $119,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
