Munitions and Explosives Safety Specialist, Senior

Key Role:

Support client munitions posture and explosives safety policy development, compliance, and risk assessment. Coordinate and participate in campaign and contingency planning and joint munitions boards to evaluate munitions requirements and availability. Support and facilitate joint munition storage and war reserve stock analysis, requirements development, and capability and capacity shortfall resolution. Coordinate with theater service components, host nations, Transportation Command, adjacent geographic combatant commands, and DoD organizations for the planning and execution of munitions distribution, storage, inspection, and technical assistance visits. Provide technical advice to client decision-makers on ammunition and explosive safety risks, mitigations, and compliance with DoD, service, and host nation standards for transportation, handling, and storage. Monitor, track, and review safety deviations and documentation for client endorsement and acceptance. Provide munitions planning input for theater exercises.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience with DoD munitions management, including inspection and certification of storage facilities, multi-modal transportation planning, and inventory management

  • 5+ years of experience with DoD explosives safety programs for identifying, assessing, communicating, and mitigating explosive risks

  • 3+ years of experience with afloat or ashore war reserve stock management

  • 2+ years of experience with DoD or service explosives safety board

  • Active Secret clearance

  • BA or BS degree

Additional Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in working with DoD service component commands

  • Experience in working with the DoD Joint planning process

  • Experience with working in a DoD Joint overseas environment

  • Experience with coordinating or conducting munition audits and assistance visits

  • Experience with Explosives Safety Siting (ESS), Munitions History Program (MHP), and National Level Ammunition Capability (NLAC) software applications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance 

  • Certified to ANSI CP-12 Explosives Safety Competency Level I
