Cryptocurrency Financial Investigations Analyst

As a Cryptocurrency Financial Investigations Analyst, you use your specialized technical, and functional experience and your attention to detail to develop insights, understanding, recommendations, and reports to give your client the actionable information and context they need. As a Cryptocurrency Financial Investigations Analyst on our team, you will investigate international money laundering, threat finance, sanctions evasion, corruption and kleptocracy, and other illicit finance typologies. You will evaluate financial data to identify and analyze indicators of money laundering activity. Using your understanding of financial intelligence, you will explore new data sources, build effective queries, and combine information from disparate sources including intelligence reporting, open-source information, regulatory filings, financial transaction data, blockchain transaction tracing, and more.

You will validate information to support evidentiary standards and assessments for regulators and senior policymakers, leveraging subject matter expertise and data science analytics proficiency to support anti-money laundering (AML) investigations findings and other administrative actions such as geographic targeting orders. As the authority in your area of expertise, your client will look to you for time-critical recommendations, often under pressure.

You Have:

  • 4+ years of experience in data analytics, intelligence analysis, investigations, or financial services compliance

  • Experience in cryptocurrency global portfolios of virtual currencies, associated cyber actors and intrusion sets, and ransomware actors and infrastructure

  • Experience conducting technical/data analysis and tracing of cryptocurrency transactions through crypto/cyber data platforms

  • Experience with analyzing people, activities, methods, or trends, including illicit activities, such as money laundering or financial crime

  • Experience with intelligence, law enforcement, and commercial financial databases

  • Expertise in Anti-Money Laundering provisions

  • Ability to work full-time from our client’s site in downtown Washington, DC once in-person work restrictions are lifted

  • Ability to use data science analytics to create big data SQL queries, script in Python/Pyspark or R, SAS, and clean unstructured datasets

  • TS/SCI clearance

  • Bachelor's degree

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with sanctions investigations, implementation, or policy

  • Experience working in an interagency environment

  • Expertise in Bank Secrecy Act reporting and associated data

  • Experience with forensic accounting

  • Experience in the financial services industry, including compliance, asset and wealth management, securities, or banking operations

  • Ability to interpret a variety of financial data statements

  • Master's degree preferred

  • CAMS, CFE, CFCS, or related professional Certification
