Data Engineer, Senior

The Challenge

Our data engineers design, build and optimize the data architectures that drive critical mission operations and address some of the most complex problems facing our country and the world today. As a data engineer at Booz Allen, you will develop scalable, event-driven and distributed data architectures to enable process automation, analytics, machine learning, IoT, and beyond. Our data engineers orchestrate ETL pipelines, deep dive on coding and scripting languages, and deploy Big data, Pub/sub, and streaming platforms to cloud, on-premise, and hybrid infrastructures. As a member of our data engineering team, you will grow your ability to analyze and specify data models, manipulate all manner of data feeds and formats, and operate secure, reliable, and performant data pipelines. This position is open to remote delivery anywhere within the U.S., to include the District of Columbia.

You Have:

  • 3+ years of experience with building or maintaining software systems, including software engineering, data architecture or data pipeline development, or data infrastructure management

  • 1+ years of experience in performing data integration, building data pipelines, or working with data manipulation tools

  • Experience with relational databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, AWS RDS or Azure Database 

  • Experience in an agile development environment

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

  • BA or BS degree

Nice If You Have:

  • 2+ years of experience with coding in an object-oriented programming language or general scripting language, including Java, C#, Python, Scala, Ruby, or Bash

  • Experience with software design patterns and data management principles

  • Experience in working with standard data formats, including JSON, XML, Avro, Parquet, or CSV

  • Experience with NoSQL tools, including Hadoop or Accumulo

  • Experience with cloud object storage, including AWS S3 or Azure Blob

  • Experience with cloud services, including AWS Redshift, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, or Snowflake

  • Experience with data pipeline or ETL technologies including Apache NiFi, StreamSets or AWS Glue

  • Experience with Agile software development

  • Knowledge of application deployment frameworks, including Spring, Docker or Kubernetes

  • Knowledge of distributed data processing technologies, including Apache Kafka, Spark, or Databricks

  • Knowledge of data warehouse querying solutions, including Apache Hive or Amazon Athena

  • Knowledge of data security, access control, and data protection techniques

  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills

Applicants will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Compensation:

The proposed salary range for this position in Colorado is 100,000 to 140,000. Final salary will be determined based on various factors.
