Plant Scientist

The Challenge:

As a plant scientist on our team, you have the chance to shape the development of next generation agricultural technologies and systems that will increase yields and reduce energy usage. You will lead the design and management of government and private sector Research and Development (R&D) programs and evaluate novel technology concepts. On our team, you’ll be able to broaden your skillset across a variety of energy fields and utilize advanced technologies from across those fields based on your knowledge of agricultural and bioenergy market considerations. Grow your skills by integrating synthetic biology and molecular breeding or remote sensing and crop modeling technologies to envision and manage next generation bio-based technology programs for improving agricultural productivity and soil carbon sequestration. This position will require travel within the US, when necessary to accommodate client needs and is located in Washington, DC.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience in postdoctoral, academic, or industry roles pertaining to plant biotechnology or agricultural technology development

  • Experience with developing enhanced plant varieties or field evaluations of agricultural technologies

  • Ability to exhibit flexibility and adaptability and work in a collaborative team environment

  • Ability to demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness when dealing with uncertainty and ask insightful questions that challenge traditional thinking

  • Ability to travel up to 15%

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

  • PhD degree in the biological or agronomic sciences

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with utilizing plant molecular biology, biochemistry, or bioinformatics to identify genetic strategies for plant improvement

  • Experience with plant phenotyping, data analytics, and multi-sensor systems to evaluate enhanced crops in the field

  • Experience with plant-microbe interactions or utilizing genomics or proteomics to characterize microbiomes

  • Experience with ecosystem level models for quantifying Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and soil carbon fluxes to assess the potential of novel biological and chemical technologies to sequester carbon

  • Experience in a consulting environment or in the biotechnology or Agriculture Technology (AgTech) industry preferred

  • Possession of excellent data gathering, analytical, problem-solving, and client service skills
