Optical Engineer

The Opportunity:

What if you could use your engineering skills to transform the U.S. Navy's Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) systems? As an optical engineer, you understand the power behind complex systems. That knowledge is key when it comes to the support, testing, and integration of ISR sensor systems.

Our team supports the design, development, and testing of state-of-the-art ISR sensor systems to enhance warfighter capabilities. That’s why we need you, an optical engineer who can use their skills to directly impact the U.S. Navy and other Department of Defense entities. Join us and take on exciting challenges as we support the warfighter with state-of-the-art ISR capabilities.

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience with optical system design and engineering trade analysis

  • 5+ years of experience with optical test equipment and optical design and analysis software

  • Experience setting up and operating ISR sensor systems in a laboratory environment, including calibration and baseline testing

  • Experience with the configuration of optical elements, including mirrors, filters, lenses, fast steering mirrors, off-axis parabolic mirrors, stages, and similar support equipment

  • Experience supporting laboratory testing of optical systems

  • Experience using a Far-Field Optical Simulator (FFOS) to evaluate precision optical alignment of systems, including laser bore sighting, laser beam profile, optical imager alignment, and image quality metrics

  • Secret clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Science field, including Physics, Applied Optics, Optical Sciences, or Electrical Engineering

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with laser propagation and subject matter expertise in the phenomenology of scattering, absorption, and turbulence

  • Experience supporting testing of optical systems to characterize atmospheric effects such as absorption, scattering, or turbulence on a laser system

  • Experience with optical test equipment, including power meters, photodiodes, detectors, interferometers, wavefront sensors, spectrometers, and beam profilers

  • Experience working with laser technologies, including pulsed visible, Near Infrared (NIR), and Mid-Wave Infrared (MWIR) lasers

  • Experience working with optical design and analysis software, including Labview, FRED, Zemax, WaveTrain, and MATLAB

  • Experience using Labview to control optical devices and systems

  • Experience designing systems to operate on ships or aircraft

  • Experience analyzing and quantifying pointing stability of optical systems mounted on ships or aircraft

  • Master’s degree in an Engineering or Science field, including Physics, Applied Optics, Optical Sciences, or EE
