Hydrogeologist and Groundwater Modeler

Key Role:

Join industry experts, apply your expertise, and grow in the field of groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling. Perform as a valuable contributor to innovative solutions for remediating per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other groundwater contaminants. Apply expertise in groundwater flow and transport processes to develop and evaluate conceptual site models and numerical models. Develop groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport models with collaboration of geologists, hydrogeologists, chemists, engineers, and GIS analysts. Review site investigations, site mitigation actions, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, and remediation pilot studies and apply modeling to analyses for developing conclusions on groundwater remediation designs and design optimizations. Support remediation projects by reviewing hydrogeology related project documents, compile, synthesize, and analyze data to develop conceptual site models, prepare reports and technical presentations for clients, regulators, and other stakeholders, and conduct environmental field work, including sampling, lithology logging, groundwater level gauging, and provide oversight of field subcontractors for drilling, well installation, well development operations, aquifer testing, and utility clearance for intrusive operations. Support multiple concurrent projects with respective deadlines and work closely and interact directly with existing clients in preparing or reviewing models, modeling results, reports, and presentations, and with preparing and potentially facilitating technical discussions. Due to the nature of work performed within this facility, U.S. citizenship is required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience with developing groundwater flow and contaminant transport models supporting environmental investigations and remediation services

  • Experience with using MODFLOW and MODPATH codes

  • Experience with software user interfaces to these codes, including Groundwater Vistas and Visual MODFLOW, and software, including Rockworks, Surfer, gINT, or AQTESOLV

  • Experience with using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Knowledge of conceptual site models, geophysical surveys, and remediation project management activities

  • Ability to perform research analysis and develop technical reports and presentations

  • Ability to demonstrate professional judgment, pay strict attention to detail, and provide high-quality work products

  • Ability to work both individually and in a team setting

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or Civil Engineering

  • Geologist Engineer In-Training Certification

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with software, including Remedial Action Cost Engineering Requirements (RACER), Arc-GIS, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Hydrologic Engineer Center (HEC) software

  • Experience with GIS mapping and field geology

  • Knowledge of databases, query, and mapping

  • Master’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or Civil Engineering

  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification

  • Licensed Professional Geologist and Engineer Certification

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $67,700.00 to $154,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
