Early Stage Energy Technology Program Manager

Key Role:
Support client program managers in the active management of numerous early-stage energy technology commercialization projects through all phases of the project management lifecycle, from project initiation to closeout. Comprehend the technical and commercial hurdles of bringing an early-stage energy technology to market and apply that knowledge to advise on the feasibility of proposed projects. Advise client program managers in negotiations with project principal investigators (PI's) on the development of project objectives, schedules, and key technical, financial, and market project milestones. Engage with client program manager, technical subject matter experts, and PI's to monitor progress of projects against the negotiated milestones, highlight project roadblocks and critical path items, and proactively define possible solutions that will help resolve the challenges inherent to achieving commercial scale innovations, including integrating new components into broader systems, establishing cost-effective supply chains and manufacturing approaches, demonstrating commercial-grade reliability, collaborating with strategic industry partners, and validating technical and economic performance at scale. Organize and drive the agenda for monthly and quarterly project meetings with client leadership, key project stakeholders, and project leadership, focusing on risk management and mitigation. Communicate progress to a federal program manager in a concise manner, distilling the critical information on the factors driving the overall success of individual projects and the program.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with oversight, evaluation, and integrated planning of projects in energy or energy adjacent industries, including chemicals or manufacturing

  • Experience with bringing a high-tech product from the bench scale or prototype phase to the marketplace

  • Experience with project management and supporting multiple projects at once

  • Experience with operating in a consulting environment and creating verbal and written communication products for clients, including presentations and project reports

  • Knowledge of investment, business, market, and policy landscapes for energy production and use

  • Knowledge of early-stage energy technical areas, including energy storage, grid services, transportation, energy efficiency, chemicals, or fuels

  • Ability to work in both independent and collaborative settings

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

  • ​Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Science, or Business Administration

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $84,600.00 to $193,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
